Last night we took a cab home from Golden Mile to Pasir, where we stay. This cab driver was different. He did not help us with our luggage nor was he friendly. My wife, told him politely where we want to go and what route to take but he remained silent. Along the journey, my wife and I spoke about the bad behaviour (jumping cues at customs) by many individuals. This sort of behaviour never existed during Lee Kuan Yew's time but these days its a common sight at Singapore Tuas Customs. Our cab driver who was silent all the while suddenly had a change in mood. He began to speed excessively. I believe he violated every speed limit in the KPE Tunnel. We were terrified and I don't know how many supplications we made to God. He did this all the way to our flat at Pasir Ris. Most probably seeing that we were unaffected, he started a conversation at a traffic light intersection at Tampines. He said, "So many flats, I wonder whether there are people to occupy them?" He then mentioned several places and with so many new roads you can gel lost, Look at Tampines.. We went along with him. After some time he mentioned America. He mentioned that the US told the Chinese that their naval battleship was not up to standard. "Can you imagine this! Someone telling me about my own house; its my house; I can do whatever I like!" He then condemn America of being a bully, wanting to control the world; creating a lot of mischief; destroying countries etc. He then spoke about the goodness of Communism; about the cost of fuel then and now (all related to America). By that time we had reached Pasir Ris. On taking my luggage out of the cab, I remarked jokingly, "You are a good communist." Wow! that started another conversation, this time face to face. That was when I got a good look at him. He was an elderly Chinese man, with a lot of missing front teeth bottom row! My wife later said, "I really prayed hard to God, to reach home safely." I replied, "I too did the same with a difference. I told God, 'You can teach him a lesson later on!" (7 June, 2018, 10.30 pm).
NOTE: I not quite sure whether this act by the taxi driver was real or not, considering the fact that Trump, the number one policeman of the world is about to visit Singapore.
